I'm sure this question has been asked several times but I haven't seen a definitive answer yet. Is there such a thing as a free VST wrapper? FXPansion has one for $99 but I'm not prepared to pay for it unless I can be guaranteed that it will work in most situations. FYI: A VST wrapper is a Logic Plugin that will allow VST plugins to be used like AU plugins because Logic does not support VST natively. Question 1: Is there a free alternative?

Question 2: Is FXpansion the only pay wrapper available? Question 3: Does FXpansion work well? Can I use most VST plugins out there, does automation etc. Are there annoying bugs/pitfalls? There's the free which I once checked out out of curiosity and it always crashed in the conversion process. On the other hand, how many Mac plug-ins do you know for which there's no AU version available? Even the GRM Tools are available as AU in the new version 3 (this was the only case I knew of a Mac plug for which no AU version was available).

Anyway, there are other alternatives to the FXpansion wrapper, which bring added functionality for the same price. For example,. I will checkout VSTAU Manager. There are heaps of free VST plugins that work on Mac that don't have AU equivalents. The installation process actually recommended that I write a letter to Apple asking why the sound card doesn't support duplex. Of course it supports duplex!
