'C: Program Files Microsoft Games Microsoft Flight Simulator X fsx.exe The application has failed to start because its side- by- side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail' I built a new PC with Vista Premium 32bit, transferred everything over from the old (WinXP Home), and got the above error message when i tried to open FSX. I uninstalled then reinstalled, still got the message. Uninstalled again and deleted all FSX files I could find on my PC (C:/Program Files, ETC.), and reinstalled. Still getting the error message. Ive tried a couple more times to uninstall and reinstall and no luck.

Also it said that i would need to update the dll dotnetfix3. Have no idea what these are but dl'd off of microsoft web site and the game worked. I did do one other thing that may have helped. I unistalled and re-installed to an other drive, that did not contain windows.
Give a try, theres nothing else out there for help. Microsoft as usual don't have anuy solutions that cost under £40.

Give me a shout and i will take you through the processes if needed. Fspilot wrote: 1) Install the vcredist_x86.exe 2) Install msxmli.msi Let me now if it helps. Worked for me I had a new Vista x64 setup with a existing FSX partition Did a REG Path key creation, worked, but when I restarted with simconnect enabled, it did the 'sxs' thing Uninstalled my C++ x86 and x64, reinstalled C++ x86 and hopla, FSX ran, and simconnect working (like my old setup, towards a notebook, and all existing.cfg's) btw Vista x64 - though a lot of people report trouble installing (me too) - gave me 50% FPS increase (~36) greetz mt. I'm having this same problem. Installed the two files listed above to no effect. Tried uninstalling the C++ x86 and reinstalling, still no luck.
I'm quite confused! Any other thoughts as to a solution?
Also, I noticed during my several reinstalls of Flight Simulator that the installer doesn't seem to fully complete the installation. The files all get installed, but no icon is put on the desktop (even when specified to do so) and no folder is put in the start menu. Also, I tried installing the dotnetfx3 file, but I get the error message that I must use 'Turn Windows features on or off' to install or configure Microsoft.NET framework 3.0.and of course when I go to 'Turn Windows features on of off,' it's absolutely blank. So maybe that's what I need to install, but I can't.
I can't understand why people have to pirate games. Just wait a year and you can get almost ANY game for a fraction of the initial price. Even games like The Sims, which have fairly stable prices, become cheaper one day. I just bought 3 MSTS add-ons, for which I would have paid initially 60 €, for only 10 €. And I think, 5€ to 12€ is a fair price for slightly old software. That's just it, FSX is now approaching three years old, and $35 for the whole package is less than you'd pay for some individual planes for the thing.
