Greco Serial Number Checker
I just bought a Greco SE from 1978. According to the seller it is a SE500 - but no stickers so hard to verify. It is a nice sunburst and sounds and plays very good.
As far as I can tell the body is two pieces joined far off-center. All parts seems to be original looking at aging/fading/wear. Seller confirms that he has not made any changes to the guitar (but I am not certain that he was the first owner). Serial number is D782919. Looked under the pickguard and wiring/electronics looks aged and fairly original too.

I read a bit about these guitars on the net and according to information I found and broschures at the yokochou broshcure site (not allowed to post link since this is my first post) it seems as this should have Maxon PU100/Excel pickups. My pickups have white covers with black bottoms and gray wires. But the bottom of the pickups are blank - no serial number and no Excel written on them.
Also the resistance values seems higher than what i found on the net for the Excels. Mine are (neck to bridge) 8.10 / 8.16 / 8.20 kOhms. So now I am really curious about what pickups could be in my guitar. Any ideas as to what these could be? Had a little mull over these with a fellow Greco enthusiast. They are PU-100 ( also named PU-S3 in later catalogs. Used primarily in Greco SE-380s (possibly in SE 450s and it's unusual to see the in an SE-500).
Usually Come in at about 7.8 - 8k on the meter. 3 doors down the greatest hits torrent. I've never played a set but reports are that they sound very nice. Could you check the solder joint at the earth and and the input jack to see if the solder joints look untouched? They may very well have been original to the guitar but trying to rule out that another pickguard was transplanted in there from a se 380-450. Click to expand. Yes they were embossed and sometimes had the number 31276. Or sometime Excells had were not embossed but just carried the 31276 number.
